Event Description:

Experience the wonder that has runners coming back year after year! Run Jericho offers a 1-mile Children's Fun Run, 5k and 10k run with views that will take your breath away...or maybe that's just from the running? ;-) The journey begins and ends through the streets of Jericho with picturesque views of the Thames River and Oxford Canal, idyllic landscapes of Port Meadow and through the luscious grounds of Worcester College. This multi-terrain run features a mostly flat elevation allowing you to enjoy your surroundings and heighten your senses, but not your altitude.

Jericho's strong sense of community will be on full display, so stick around and have a visit at our tables for some conversation, snacks, drinks, ice cream, event merchandise, sponsor offers and a good time! As a bonus, 100% of the funds raised go towards St Barnabas Primary School and help to enhance the pupils' educational experience. Our fundraising goal is £15,000 for a Multi-Use Sports Games Area to be constructed in Summer 2026 in the community shared playground.

Organisers: The St Barnabas Primary School Parent Teacher Association has been organising this event since 2011. We are a registered charity (#1050421) and follow the UK Athletics rules

1-mile Fun Run
Our 1-mile fun run starts and finishes at St Barnabas Primary School, taking the young runners around Jericho and through the beautiful Worcester College on fully closed roads. This race will include a pace bunny.

All participants who present their race number will receive a FREE G&D's ice cream!

Parents can accompany children 6 years and under without buying an additional place in the 1 mile race.

5k Race
Our 5k multi-terrain race starts at the school in Jericho and continues through the beautiful Worcester College, up William Lucy Way and through Port Meadow. From Port Meadow you run along Aristotle Lane and down the Oxford canal. A short bridge hop takes you to the final homestretch through Jericho to St Barnabas Primary School. There are some steps at footbridges, with narrow paths and uneven surfaces and course is on partially closed roads.

10k Race
Our 10k multi-terrain race takes you around scenic routes through North Oxford. From the start at the school in Jericho, the run continues through the beautiful Worcester College, up William Lucy Way, and through Port Meadow  and along River Thames as far as Wolvercote. From Wolvercote it’s back down Port Meadow through Burgess Field, along Aristotle Lane and down the Oxford canal. A short bridge hop takes you to the final homestretch through Jericho to St Barnabas Primary School.

The run can be challenging, as it is multi-terrain. Water is provided just after the 5 km mark and at the finish line, but we recommend that runners also carry their own. There are some steps at footbridges, with narrow paths and uneven surfaces and course is on partially closed roads.

On-The-Day Registration: A registration table will be set up to the side of the check-in desks in the school playground. On-the-day registration is possible if max entries are not reached, however, please ensure that you bring your phone and a debit/credit card as it will be done online and payment in cash is not accepted.

Race Number Collection: Your race number will be e-mailed to you in the middle of the preceding week (~4th June 2025). Collect your race number from the check-in desk in the school playground, follow the signs to your number or if unsure of your race number visit the information desk.

Medical Information: Tables with pens and pins located to the side of the check-in desks. Please write any medical conditions and emergency contact details on the reverse of race number and attach it to the FRONT of your vest/t-shirt using 4 safety pins. First responders and paramedic will be available to handle any medical issues on the day.

Disability: As our races are multi-terrain, the courses include steep foot bridges, narrow gates and uneven surfaces. Unfortunately, wheelchairs cannot navigate these routes due to the steps and foot bridges. We are an inclusive event and can/have made shortened or alternative routes for participants with disabilities. Please contact the Race Director and our team will determine what special arrangements can be made. Run Jericho brings together participants who have different goals and experience, so we have provided some handy guides on training before the race, as well as information on how to get here, and what to do on the day.

Photography: If you do not wish for you or your children to appear in any published photo, please draw a large thick line across the race number. Markers will be provided to the side of the check-in desks.

Other Important Information: Adults are not permitted to run the 1-mile Children's Fun Run unless accompanying children. Adults are required to accompany children under 6 years of age. If you are running with your child, please DO NOT wear your own race number as it may trigger the chip, giving you a false timing for your own run. No dogs, scooters, bikes or buggies/pushchairs on any of the courses as they pose a hazard to runners, pushchairs are permitted at the event location.

Livestock: Please note, in very rare instances, there may be livestock (mostly cows and horses) and other animals grazing near or on the course in Port Meadow and neighbouring areas of the 5K and 10K Runs. Remember, all animals have the right of way, as this is their territory. If you encounter animals on the course, please give them plenty of space, walk (don't run) around them, and let the nearest marshall know. If the animals appear aggressive or start to run towards you, immediately retreat to a safe location, and only continue when it is safe to do so.

Headphones: The wearing of headphones and earbuds (other than those medically prescribed) is not permitted in races on any carriageway road that is not fully closed to traffic. Runners must be able to hear instructions from marshals in these areas. Bone conduction sports headphones are the only headphones permitted as they do not go in or over your ears allowing you to still hear marshal instructions.

Surfaces: These are multi-terrain runs and mostly flat courses, however please note that there are narrow gates, uneven surfaces and some steps leading to steep footbridges on the 5k and 10k routes. The meadow in particular can have uneven surfaces where animals have passed leaving holes and in wet conditions, there can be some muddy areas on the course. Please visit our website to familiarise yourself with the course routes.

Warm Up/Cool Down: A warm up for the 5k and 10k and a cool down for the 1-mile run will occur at approximately 9:35 a.m.

Delays and Cancellations: In case of adverse weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control, we reserve the right to delay or cancel the event. Details of an event delay or cancellation will be communicated across our website and social media channels.

Refund Policy: Due to the high volume of requests, we are unfortunately unable to offer refunds or process cancellations if you can't attend on the day as planned due to injury, family emergencies, scheduling conflicts etc.  Entries are non-refundable and unfortunately cannot be deferred.
